Sacred Heart and Saint Bernadette Confirmation Program
Just as most high school students have the ability to select classes to take in school, so too Confirmation candidates will have options in their Faith Formation classes.
Earn 20 credits to complete the preparation for Confirmation: eleven credits are part of the curriculum; four credits earned after completing required events/activities; and five credits are given for completing 20 hours of service. There are additional requirements of the Diocese that are not included in the credit count (Confirmation retreat, interviews with staff and Father, Saint report, letter to Bishop).
We will hold our Wednesday evening class at Saint Bernadette from 6:30-7:45pm, which will achieve all 11 credits if one attends regularly. Each student has the ability to make up a class by choosing credits from an "electives" list, such as attending daily Mass, a Holy Hour, attending a conference or camp, etc. We will also have classes available to make up at home if 2 or more students are willing to gather at that time and a parent is willing to lead discussions.
We hope this system will allow students involved in various extracurricular activities to organize their calendar in a way that will allow them to continue their extracurriculars while faithfully continuing to grow in their relationship with the Lord.
Confirmation is the sacrament of initiation that calls forth the fullness of the Holy Spirit to strengthen our relationship with Christ and the Church. The bishop through the "laying on of hands" and "anointing with holy oil" evokes the Holy Spirit to dwell within us and grant seven gifts: wonder and awe, reverence, understanding, right judgment, knowledge, courage and wisdom. These essential actions of the bishop confer the sacrament that helps us to live holy lives in service to each other and our Church.
